- Active noise cancellation. Most of the time, but not all the time, I have zero interest in hearing what is happening around me. On public transport, the conversation someone is having nearby is not my concern. I want to be in the bubble that noise cancelling headphones create. I want to control what I take into my mind through my ears, in the same way many people control what goes into their body through their mouth. Let’s call it some sort of audible nutrition plan.
Of course there are times when it is important for one’s safety to be able to hear what is happening around us which brings me to point number two…
- Transparency mode. There are some sounds I want to zone out, and there are some sounds I want to incorporate into my day. When I go for a walk or a hike, I don’t want to completely distance from my environment. I want to hear the wind, the birdsong, the lapping waves. But I also use these times to listen to a podcast or audiobook. Pick the right one and it’s like your walking with someone. I regularly take walks with Rich Roll and a guest for example. For some reason, we see a person taking a stroll, out on a trail and if they have earphones in, think they aren’t really there. Take a walk in the way I’ve described and you will get more enjoyment from conversation you listen to and have a greater appreciation for the natural world you are immersed in. Transparency mode brings the external world to your internal world. I highly recommend it.
If you use Airpods or Airpods Pro, what do you like about them? Let me know in the responses section, thanks for reading!
